On January 4 2008, L82 Construction was awarded the contract for the earthwork pre-grade for Hanwha L&C Canada. The site is located at Innovation Industrial Park at the corner of Veterans Memorial Parkway and Hamilton Road, in the City of London.
Hanwha, a South Korean based company, manufactures a wide array of products. This particular factory will be producing COUNTER TOPS, and expects to employ 150 people with the possibility of up to a 1000 jobs being created through future plant expansions. This project is a challenge for L82 simply because of the winter weather conditions. As anyone in this business knows, moving earth during winter months can cause problems. Frozen ground must be managed such that frost and frozen earth not be used as fill material. L82’s solution to the frost problem is to not allow the ground to freeze before the engineered fill is complete. The way to accomplish this is to work 24 hours a day.
L82 has devised a work plan to work 2 twelve hour shifts until the project is complete. This will allow the work to be done to the satisfaction of the soils consultant and maintain an accelerated schedule.
The Prime Consultant for the project is Earthtec Canada and the soils consultant is Golders & Associates Ltd.
