In late 2023, St. Thomas issued a prequalification request for the Highbury Avenue Widening project, aimed at enhancing traffic flow for the new VW battery plant. L82 successfully demonstrated our capability to undertake this significant project, showcasing our team’s expertise, past successes, project understanding, key considerations, proposed schedule, staging/phasing plans, and robust safety procedures. After a competitive tendering process, we were awarded this pivotal project in early 2024, with a budget of $26,000,000.00.
The scope of work included the removal and reinstallation of existing roadway, extension of Highbury to Highway 3, and installing three two-lane roundabouts at strategic intersections. Construction activities encompassed widening the roadway, installing trunk sanitary and storm sewers, concrete watermains, new granulars, curbs, paving, pavement markings, street lights, signs, landscaping, and Ministry of Transportation works.
This project presented significant challenges, yet the dedication and hard work of the L82 team were instrumental in its successful completion. We extend our sincere appreciation to everyone involved, including St. Thomas (The Railway City), Ministry of Transportation, RV Anderson, Capital Paving, Rinker Pipe and Precast, Emco Waterworks, JNF Concrete Limited, Acculine Pavement Markings, Southwold Diversified, Outer Construction, Demar Aggregates, Royal Fence, LDS Consulting, AAROC Aggregates, Oxford Sand and Gravel, CLC Tree Service, PNR Railway Works, Thames Valley Aggregates, BEECH Infrastructure Group, and all stakeholders.
Together, we achieved a significant milestone for our community, region and the world, exemplifying collaboration and excellence in infrastructure development.
